Workplace noise assessments
Do you, in your workplace (inside or outside) have to shout to talk to someone between 1m and 2 meters away? (which is comparable to say over the noise level of a busy street, a typical vacuum cleaner or a crowded restaurant – you will be able to hold a conversation, but the noise will be intrusive).
If the answer is `yes`, then there will be a need to undertake a noise assessment to determine the control measures required to reduce this to their lowest possible level. You may be concerned that noise levels could be lower and need to establish a benchmark on which to base future improvements.
In addition to the traditional manufacturing type industries, other areas where staff could be exposed to excessive noise include: pubs; night clubs; construction; music venues and events were your staff are unable to talk comfortably with their colleagues.
The most common type of deafness apart from old age are noise and involve permanent and irreversible inner ear damage. Noise induced hearing loss is the most common industrial disease in Europe, with over 1,000,000 workers in the UK being exposed to levels of noise which put their hearing at risk.
Roughwood Consultancy can undertake noise assessment surveys for you, providing you with a report on the findings and guide you to finding a solution.
